Eddie Izzard Joining Cast of ‘Race’
By DAVE ITZKOFF
Apparently the theater gods and goddesses were listening when we noted earlier today that there was still one more gavel yet to fall in the re-casting of the Broadway play “Race”: When James Spader leaves that David Mamet drama after June 20, he will be replaced by Eddie Izzard, its producers said
. Mr. Izzard, the comedian and actor who will take over in the role of the lawyer Jack Lawson, made his Broadway debut in the 2003 revival of “A Day in the Death of Joe Egg,” the Peter Nichols comedy; he’s also an Emmy Award winner for his comedy special “Eddie Izzard: Dress to Kill,” and looks smashing in drag (which he won’t be doing for “Race,” alas). “Race” is slated to run through Aug. 21 at the Ethel Barrymore Theater with a cast that will include Dennis Haysbert and Afton C. Williamson, as well as Richard Thomas, who has been in the play since its opening. Current Mood: bouncy

He won't be in Portland until August, but I am buying my tickets NOW!!! I can't believe someone as cool as EI is using ticketmaster, but there it is.......
The tour schedule and other info is at eddieizzard.com.
Sorry if this is outdated already, but I didn't bother reading the NY Times arts section of a couple weeks ago until Friday. Current Mood: stoked

This community was originally designed to be a low-volume community for those who wanted to keep abreast of Eddie news, but didn't need to hear about it every time someone saw a squirrel or an Englebert Humperdinck tape.
I started it because I didn't have a the time to keep up with eddieizzard
. Subtle flaw in cunning plan: I also didn't have time to run a community.
I am therefore looking for someone to take over maintenance of eddienews
. Ideally this would be someone who actually does
keep up with eddieizzard
and could cross-post relevant stuff over here. However, I realize that most of you joined this community because, like me, you're not long on time or patience. So really, just let me know if you're interested and we'll take it from there.
Sorry to take up space on your friends lists with this, but it was either this or delete the community without a trace!

I don't think this has been posted
"ThinkFilm has acquired all North American rights to the in-the-works, as-yet-untitled documentary by and about comedian Eddie Izzard which Sarah Townsend is directing and producing says The Hollywood Reporter.
The film, which has been in production for about three years, will combine performance footage, interviews with friends, family and fans, and extensive material documenting the life, both onstage and off, of the comedian.
Izzard is known for his one-man shows, and his 1998 performance, "Dress to Kill," which aired on HBO, earned him Emmys for both writing and performing in the comedy special category.
Thanks to 'Crosser'." Current Mood: curious

Eddie Izzard could be the next British star to appear in The Simpsons.
Izzard set for Simpsons
Groening hails him 'a genius'
Creator Matt Groening is said to be keen to find a cameo role for the comic after meeting him at last week’s British Comedy Awards.
The animator called Izzard ‘a genius’, but said he would have to wait for a suitable role to arise before he could join the residents of Springfield
Groening told The Independent: “There's no saying who we'll get him to play, but we often don't get people to play themselves. As soon as the right part comes along, we'll get Eddie in.”
Izzard is a die-hard Simpsons fan, who has previously sat in on a script read-through with the cast.
In a recent interview, he said: “I’d love to be in it, but they never asked me, and I don’t want to push it. I think it’s because I’m a cult – rather than a mainstream – name.”
But Izzard’s profile in the States is on the rise, and he has just taken a role in the Hollywood blockbuster Oceans Twelve.http://www.chortle.co.uk/news/dec04/izzard31123.php

I found this on eddieizzard.com about his Ocean's 12 character:
"Eddie plays a cross-dressing middle-man named Evelyn in Ocean's 12. He is the one that Danny (Clooney), Rusty (Pitt), and Linus (Damon) are going to the coffee shop (De Dampkring) to meet.
He then gives the gang plans to Vanderspeigle's estate and lines up a buyer for the stock certificate they are trying to steal in Amsterdam."
